Postman in Hair Shock! (Literally!)

Record released on 2003-02-27 at 1:19 p.m.

# Happy birthday to me.... Happy birthday to me.... #

And a happy one it's really been so far :) Well, except for the fact that my dad chose to burst in and wake me with a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' when he actually cannot sing a bar in key. My awakening was slightly rude, but the cheque in my card eased the pain a little :) My morning just got better and better, with the only slight mishap being the appearance of the postman while my head was covered in layers of gooey red and black dyes. The poor man probably thought I'd just been murdering some people upstairs as I reached out my red-stained hands to collect the pile of envelopes and parcels that he'd brought with him. He even went so far as to give a nervous giggle and positively retreat up the path. Coward :)

To add insult to injury, a tight schedule of different development times and various leaking bottles of dye meant that I couldn't even open any of the bits that he'd brought with him before he scarpered until I'd finished doing the dyes and cleaned myself up a bit. They sat there, taunting me, fresh and unopened for the next twenty minutes. I am sure I heard one of them go 'Ner-ner ner-ner nerrrr...' when it thought I wasn't looking.

I adopted my filling-the-bath-with-water technique so that the dye didn't stain (it really works, too!) and watched various shades of colour drip from my head into the bath until such times as the tube of sickly-smelling conditioner that came with the dye had all been used and the water started to run clear. Then I put a towel around my head and got my my feet, chasing the colourful suds away with the shower head. It was interesting to see red peeking through the towel in place of the blonde hair that's been there for the last couple of months.

When I took off the towel, I stared in amazement. The red was so bright and vivid, while the black was the darkest dye I'd ever seen. Never before have I had dyes that worked this well. The black dye, in fact, is the best dye I've ever used. It's Boot's own brand as well, and was the cheapest on the shelf! Yet it took in only 10 minutes, washed easily off my skin and didn't have any pictures of someone covering their eyes with their newly dyed hair on the packet. I absolutely love this change in colour, I really do. I'll get Y to take a picture over the weekend. I'd like to remember this colour combination :)

Finally, with dyes brushed aside I got to open my pile of cards and presents. Some were just family ones - you know the type, from aunts and uncles you've not seen in over a year and put little more than a 'have a good day' because they don't have a clue what to say to you any more. But then I got to the interesting batch - including two of 4 allegations that I have received today that i should be 3 instead of 23! H still remembers my birthday, even when she's far away at uni. I giggled at her message in the card; "I apologise if this is late, I have issues with getting to postboxes on time" :)

And then there were two packages which i tore open excitedly.... dear Kass had sent me a Kelly Osbourne-fest of a birthday package, with a surprise Geri as well! And then Laura's package was duly opened, in which I discovered a mysterious tape. I had a suspicion of what might be on it so I slipped it in the video recorder to see if I was correct.... and there they were - Tweenies from abroad! Fantastic!! Unlike the nasty surprise 'Boris' written in the corner of the postcard! ARGH! Thank you both for the lovely presents and cards - they were fantastic! xxxx

And thank you as well for all the messages and the ecards from everyone I found when I came online - I'll thank you properly next week as soon as I get the chance, but I really had to say thank you straight away :) Oh - and of course there was a barrage of meanness via text from Kass, who decided to make up for the lack of nasties in my package! Argh! Most of the mean texts involved multi-coloured evil things and revenge *will* be mine!

So, yes, my birthday already is becoming the best one yet. And I've not even welcomed Y here yet! He's been working on a pretty girl surprise for me the last few days, so I know I still have more to look forward to :) The only thing I wish is that I wasn't so bloody exhausted and that I could get rid of this damn pain. In case anyone is in any doubt, that depo is definitely NOT good for me. Anyway, Milo is asking for a Kangaroo on the farm at the moment on the Tweenies, so I shall go and get ready to meet Y at the station. Have a good weekend - and thank you for everything!! xxxx
